Do you need a new consumer unit?

Many homes still contain old-style consumer units. There are believed to be around 4000 fires in homes caused by faulty wiring each year.

There are many safety benefits associated with new-style consumer units. These give extra protection to each individual circuit in case of an electrical surge or fault.

Signs that your consumer unit may need to be updated include if it has old-fashioned fuses, a wooden back, or too many appliances running on one circuit. You may experience regular blow fuses, dim or flickering lights or corroded electrical connections.

What are the benefits of a new consumer unit?

The most important reason to update your consumer unit is to ensure the safety of you and your family. Electrical faults can cause serious safety hazards, including fires and electric shocks.

Upgrading your consumer unit will not only improve safety but will increase energy efficiency by keeping power surges under control, reducing downtime. They will also ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations. You can have peace of mind that your electrics are working as they should. Installing one of the latest consumer units may lower your insurance premiums.

What is involved?

Our electricians can come and determine the condition of your current consumer unit. If replacement is needed, we can provide a quote. The cost will depend on different factors, including the number of circuits within the property. We can complete consumer unit replacements in one working day.

We will have to isolate the power supply to make it safe to remove the existing unit. Once the new consumer unit is installed and connections checked, it will be tested and certified. Building Control will send a Certificate of Compliance.
